Lake Macatawa is a lake in Ottawa County. It is about 6 miles long and 1.2 miles wide at its largest point. The surface area of the lake is around 1,700 acres. The lake is in parts of Park Township, City of Holland and, & Holland Township.
There are two bays that are of considerable size. There is Pine Creek Bay and then Big Bay to the west. Lake Macatawa discharges into Lake Michigan near Holland State Park.
Industrial development is happening at the eastern end of the lake within the City of Holland and includes a coal-fired power plant, pharmaceutical production plant, scrap metal recycling facility, aggregate mineral loading dock as well a pickle production facility that is owned by the Heinz company. The rest of the Lakeshore is inundated with high-income residential development. Holland State Park is the only exception as it boarders on the northern shoreline at the western end of Lake Macatawa.
