Saugatuck MI Real Estate

While it may get chilly during the winter in Saugatuck, you would never know that throughout the summer months. There is always something going on and someone outside enjoying the warm air. Saugatuck is a small town, which allows for things to be very quiet and peaceful.

During the winter, Saugatuck mainly consists of the year round residents, but during the summer months the number of people in Saugatuck rises to about 3,000 as people flood to the many bed and breakfasts of the city. The bed and breakfasts are one of the main sources of income for residents of Saugatuck.

In the early 20th century, Saugatuck was home to the famous Big Pavilion, a large dance hall that attracted bands and visitors from across the Midwest. The building was a popular destination on Lake Michigan from its construction in 1909 until it burned down on May 6, 1960.[6].

Saugatuck was previously a lumber town and port. Saugatuck and what is known as its “twin city” Douglas became a recognized art colony as well as tourist attraction in the Arts & Crafts movement of the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, Saugatuck attracted many visitors to what was known as the Big Pavilion. This was a famous large dance hall that hosted many concerts. The Big Pavilion continued to be a popular tourist destination until it burned down in 1960.

The big drawing card for Saugatuck these days are the great art galleries, the harbor, the marina, the lovely scenery, the interesting shops and the view you can see from atop Mount Baldhead. Oval Beach on Lake Michigan is also a popular place to visit. Close to Saugatuck are Saugatuck Dunes State Par kand Allegan State Game Area as well as the city ofHolland. The city of Holland is famous for their Tulip time which is one of the biggest festivals around.

There are an amazing amount of businesses which are available to residents and tourists alike. You can do anything from chartering a fishing boat, going sailing, taking a photography workshop, going on a ride to see the dunes, checking out the soda shop or the chain ferry. The list can go on and on. There is no way you could stay in Saugatuck only a week and do all of different things that are available here.

If you want to venture out of Saugatuck you can go to Douglas. Douglas is similar to Saugatuck and is known as one of the friendliest towns. There are plenty of great places to walk around Douglas as well as Saugatuck.

Some people want to get away from the big city and build their own little retreat. There is lots of land that are just waiting for someone to develop. If you don’t like anything that is already built then you can build your own.

Those of you that are interested in investment properties may find out that this is a great area for you to invest in. There are plenty of different people who love to come to this area. The beaches, shopping, boating and various larger cities that are close by are great for attracting visitors from all around the world.
