In many ways, the features that you want to look for in a Lake Michigan real estate property are the same that you would look for in any other real estate search. Quality construction, good condition, well-maintained grounds, etc. However, there are some specific traits that you might want to consider looking for that will make your time in Western Michigan even that much more enjoyable.
One of the most compelling reasons to visit the shores of Lake Michigan is to take in the beautiful scenery that the region has to offer. Whether your property is directly on the lakefront, or set back from the water by a few blocks, you will still want to enjoy as much natural light as possible. If you can find a Lake Michigan home for sale that has the large windows facing a full view of the lake itself, all the better.
Mud Room/Entry Area
Another reason to come to this area is to enjoy an outdoor style of living for much of the year. When you come back from the beach, or trail, or any other outdoor pursuit, you are likely to be a little dirty. If you can find a property that has a mud room or dedicated entry area to change out of your messy clothes and shoes, it will help to keep the rest of the home clean. Even a covered outdoor patio with a place to sit down, and possibly a hose to wash off, would do the job nicely.
Room for Guests
It will make your time along the shores of Lake Michigan all that much more enjoyable if you are able to invite guests to come stay at your property. Take this into consideration when you are shopping for Lake Michigan real estate. Even just one extra bedroom can go a long way in being able to invite up friends and family to enjoy a weekend away. If you only find a property with just enough bedrooms for your immediate family, it will be difficult to entertain guests and show off your little piece of Lake Michigan real estate.
