Gun Lake spans roughly 2,680 acres with 17 miles of shoreline and depths near 60 feet, West Michigan's largest inland all-sports lake, built for boating and water sports at scale. Hutchins Lake is about 360 acres, spring-fed, intimate, and quiet, five miles from Saugatuck. Gun Lake is big-water recreation. Hutchins is a quieter, more tucked-away lake experience.
Gun Lake sits in Barry County, drawing from both Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Hutchins Lake sits in the Fennville area near Saugatuck's wine country and the Art Coast, which gives it a very different surrounding character, orchards, vineyards, and galleries minutes away. Hutchins Lake waterfront generally runs $300,000 to $800,000, one of the more accessible ways onto a spring-fed lake near the lakeshore. Gun Lake offers strong value for its size, though prices vary widely by frontage and position. Both are more accessible than Lake Macatawa or Lake Michigan frontage.
Choose Gun Lake for a large all-sports lake with serious boating and room to spread out. Choose Hutchins Lake for a quieter spring-fed lake with Saugatuck and wine country at your doorstep and strong vacation-rental appeal.
