Lake Michigan Living is closer than you think

Countless people around Michigan and surrounding areas have long dreamed of owning a vacation property along the shores of Lake Michigan to enjoy everything that the beautiful region has to offer. Unfortunately, many have given up on the dream due to the misconception that it would just take too long to get out to the coastline. In reality, the eastern shores of Lake Michigan that are so popular for their great beaches and warm summers are a lot closer than you might imagine.

Using Holland Michigan Lake Michigan Real Estate as our destination, let’s look at the travel times from some of the more populous areas in Michigan and beyond. Even if you were to find some Lake Michigan Real Estate that is north or south of Holland, it would not dramatically change the travel time. In fact, if you find a property that is closer to which direction you are coming from, a trip out to Lake Michigan can be even closer.

Detroit, MI

Although they are on opposite sides of the state, a drive from Detroit across to Holland should only take about two and a half hours, depending on traffic conditions. It is less than 200 miles on I-96, meaning you could leave on a Friday after work and still enjoy a nice weekend at your cottage or vacation home before returning on Sunday evening.

Chicago, IL

Of course, Chicago is already on Lake Michigan, but it offers a completely different experience that what can be found along the shores of Western Michigan. If you were to purchase a Lake Michigan real estate property in the Holland area and make the drive up from Chicago, you would be looking at a similar drive time as from Detroit – around 2.5 hours, traffic dependent. It is actually fewer miles to reach Holland from Chicago, about 150 taking I-94 E and I-196 N.

Indianapolis, IN

Making the drive from Indianapolis up to Holland on a regular basis might sound like too much to ask, but it is actually less than a four hour trip under regular traffic conditions. If you are willing to spend a little time on the road in order to be rewarded with a beautiful vacation destination, those living in the Indy area should absolutely consider Western Michigan real estate in their search for a getaway property. With many locations to consider south of Holland, the trip to the property you decide to purchase actually could end up being well-shorter than four hours.
