Living next to, or near, Lake Michigan is great in part because of all the amazing recreational opportunities. With impressive weather available for much of the year, there is no reason not to get out and enjoy everything that is available to do and see. No matter what kind of recreation calls to you, it is probably available somewhere along the Lake Michigan coast. The list of five options below is just a small sample of what life near the lake has to offer.

1. Fishing

Lake Michigan offers a variety of fishing opportunities for those so inclined. The specific type of fishing available to you will depend on where along the coast you land, and how far out into the water you would like to venture. Charter boat fishing is an option for those who don’t want to invest in their own boat and gear.

2. Strolling the Beach

The coast of Lake Michigan has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. When the weather starts to warm up in the spring and summer months, taking a relaxing walk along the beach is one of the favorite pastimes of many local residents and visitors alike. When looking for Lake Michigan homes for sale, consider the nearby beaches as part of the overall package that you are shopping for.

3. Off-Roading

There are abundant opportunities in the West Michigan area to get off the pavement and test out the wheels on your ATV. Dunes can be found in various areas, so if off-roading is an activity that is important to you, make sure to locate some great places to find while doing your Lake Michigan real estate search.

4. Play Golf

Golf is popular throughout the state of Michigan, and that is no different out along the coast. There are golf courses located up and down the coastline, so find one near where you are looking for a property and check it out. Both private club and public golf options are available.

5. Bike Riding

One of the favorite activities of many West Michigan residents is simply going for bike rides along the numerous trails that run through the area. There aren’t many better ways to enjoy the natural beauty of the region than to get out on two wheels and let the wind blow through your hair as you pedal along.
