This vibrant and growing community reflects the balance between established neighborhoods, churches, schools and businesses as well as residential developments. The downtown of Douglas is eclectic and pedestrian friendly, allowing you to easily walk through the shops, have a cup of coffee, or eat a delicious bite.

If you’ve had enough shopping you can simply go down to the Lake Michigan shoreline and enjoy some peace and quiet.

This friendly little town is surrounded by Saugatuck Township and the city of Saugatuck is nearby on the north side. Douglas and Saugatuck are actually known as the twin cities so you can quickly get to whichever location you would like in either town without a lot of time or hassle.

If you want to get out and about in the town to check out the different events there are plenty of different ones to see. You may want to go to an art show or a festival. Depending on the time of year, you will be able to get in on these different activities. The Douglas website keeps an up to date list of what is going on in the community.

Since Saugatuck and Douglas are twin cities, Douglas only has an elementary school and the other schools close by for the older kids are in Saugatuck. There are also private schools in the area for additional schooling options.

It is so easy to walk around Douglas that you probably won’t need or want to use a car very often. You can simply use the lovely sidewalks as you are making your way through the downtown. Many people here also have bikes that they use to get around the town.
