Lake Macatawa Real Estate Holland Michigan

Lake Macatawa is a lake in Ottawa County. It is about 6 miles long and 1.2 miles wide at its largest point. The surface area of the lake is around 1,700 acres. The lake has differing depths but most of the lake is less than 10 feet deep. The navigation channel does allow for deep draft ship access to and from Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa. The lake is in parts of Park Township, City of Holland and, & Holland Township.

There are two bays that are of considerable size. There is Pine Creek Bay and then Big Bay to the west. Lake Macatawa discharges into Lake Michigan near Holland State Park.

Industrial development is happening at the eastern end of the lake within the City of Holland and includes a coal-fired power plant, pharmaceutical production plant, scrap metal recycling facility, aggregate mineral loading dock as well a pickle production facility that is owned by the Heinz company. The rest of the Lakeshore is inundated with high-income residential development. Holland State Park is the only exception as it boarders on the northern shoreline at the western end of Lake Macatawa.

Those moving to Lake Macatawa find that there are many different options available. For those that are less than happy with city life there are great places near Lake Macatawa that will allow for enjoyment of all the urban facilities but in a rural home. Unlike many housing developments the homes here are custom and unique.

There are many lakefront homes currently available. These lakefront homes offer quick access to the lake and great views. These homes range from the mid $400,000’s to $2,000,000+.

Waterfront condos on Lake Macatawa are popular as you get the amenities of condo living with great views of the lake and in many cases a dock for your boat. Fishing is popular on the lake as is skiing, tubing and wake boarding.  In the summer you will find many Lake Macatawa home owners who take their boat out to Lake Michigan
